Yellow - the most straightforward groupHASTINGS, BOSWORTH, BANNOCKBURN and CULLODEN are all historical battles - the most direct link on the board.
Green - mediumOATH, ALLEGIANCE, VOWS and BOND are all things that can be sworn.
Blue - harderEach word goes in front of BIRD to make a word or phrase: EAGLE + BIRD, DOVE + BIRD, RAVEN + BIRD and HAWK + BIRD.
Purple - the trickiest groupA sound-alike group: say each word out loud and it sounds like a different word. The link is the sound, not the spelling.
