Yellow - the most straightforward groupJAVELIN, HAMMER, DISCUS and SHOT are all athletics field events - the most direct link on the board.
Green - mediumPUNCH, TANTRUM, PARTY and DICE are all things you throw.
Blue - harderCELL, LOCK, STRETCH and STINT are all prison terms.
Purple - the trickiest groupWHELP, PINT, TIDDLER and SHRIMP all fit words meaning small. As the purple group it is the hardest link to spot, often because some of these words look as if they belong elsewhere.
