Yellow - the most straightforward groupPENCIL, ERASER, RULER and NOTEBOOK are all stationery items - the most direct link on the board.
Green - mediumBIRCH, MAPLE, OAK and ASH are all trees.
Blue - harderCLAW, HEAD, SHAFT and GRIP are all parts of a hammer.
Purple - the trickiest groupSTRIKE, BEAT, POUND and BANG all fit verbs - music actions. As the purple group it is the hardest link to spot, often because some of these words look as if they belong elsewhere.
