Yellow - the most straightforward groupPEERAGE, KNIGHTHOOD, BARONY and EARLDOM are all royal honors - the most direct link on the board.
Green - mediumMONK, FRIAR, CLERK and SCHOLAR are all medieval scholars.
Blue - harderEach word goes in front of GUARD to make a word or phrase: ROYAL + GUARD, COAST + GUARD, LIFE + GUARD and BODY + GUARD.
Purple - the trickiest groupA sound-alike group: say each word out loud and it sounds like a different word: KNIGHT sounds like night, HARE sounds like hair, DEER sounds like dear and BEAR sounds like bare.
