Yellow - the most straightforward groupROBIN, SPARROW, EAGLE and PIGEON are all types of birds - the most direct link on the board.
Green - mediumHAMMER, WRENCH, SAW and PLIERS are all common hand tools.
Blue - harderThe link is in the spelling, not the meaning: each word has the letters EAR hidden inside it - HEARTH, BEARABLE, FEARFUL and WEARING.
Purple - the trickiest groupREST, STAFF, SHARP and FLAT all fit musical terms. As the purple group it is the hardest link to spot, often because some of these words look as if they belong elsewhere.
